Task 6 'what is Black British culture?'

Black people from other countries such as Nigeria, Caribbean bring over their culture to shear like food, music and fashion.

Adjusting to new like in Britain wasn't easy, expected the quality of life to be a lot better, living accommodation wasn't available for west Indians, some black people wasn't allowed to go into certain venues so they found other ways to socialise and this was the beginning of a black culture.

The first generation's roots were still with their home country, with the birth of the second generation of black people, those born in the UK, came the beginnings of a new way of living where as the first generations roots were with their home countries, this generation were beginning to mix the two together.

Some white people, brown Asian, Pakistanis, more people are taking on black culture and how they dress.

Black like Beckham, David Beckham was the black communities greatest icon he was also Britain's most famous black man because of his lifestyle. Those who borrow from black culture are often accused of acting black.Acting black. means talking with the slang, walking with the bop, attitude. Its associating yourself with the people around you.

Definitions Task 3

IDENTITY- The set of behavioral or personal characteristics by which an individual is recognizable as a member of a group.

COLLECTIVE IDENTITY- A collective identity refers to individuals' sense of belonging to a group . From the perspective of the individual, the collective identity forms a part of his or her personal identity.

MEDIATION- Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution, is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties. A third party, the mediator, mediators may express a view on what might be a fair or reasonable settlement.

REPRESENTATION- Representation refers to the construction in any type of from such as people, places, objects, events, cultural identities and other abstract concepts.other things that are also represented to make an identitiy are Class, Age, Gender and Ethnicity.

HEGEMONY- leadership or predominant influence exercised by one nation over others, as in a confederation.

COLONIALISM- The control or governing influence of a nation over a dependent country, territory, or people. The system or policy by which a nation maintains or advocates such control or influence.

POST COLONIALISM- An era or attitude relating to the period after the settlement of one country by another, or very broadly, after the 1960s, when many colonised countries gained their independence

IMPERIAL 'OTHER'-

YOUTH SUBCULTURE- A minority youth culture whose distinctiveness depended largely on the social class and ethnic background of its members; often characterized by its adoption of a particular music genre such as rock, pop, rap.

SYNCRETISM- is the combining of different beliefs, often while melding practices of various schools of thought.

POST MODERNISM-Postmodernism is a tendency in contemporary culture characterized by the rejection of objective truth and global cultural narrative

URBAN MUSIC- The term was coined by the late New York DJ Frankie Crocker in the mid 1970s. Urban contemporary radio stations feature a playlist made up entirely of hip hop/rap, contemporary R&B, pop, electronica and Caribbean music such as reggae, reggaeton, zouk, and sometimes soca.
