Definitions Task 3

IDENTITY- The set of behavioral or personal characteristics by which an individual is recognizable as a member of a group.

COLLECTIVE IDENTITY- A collective identity refers to individuals' sense of belonging to a group . From the perspective of the individual, the collective identity forms a part of his or her personal identity.

MEDIATION- Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution, is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties. A third party, the mediator, mediators may express a view on what might be a fair or reasonable settlement.

REPRESENTATION- Representation refers to the construction in any type of from such as people, places, objects, events, cultural identities and other abstract concepts.other things that are also represented to make an identitiy are Class, Age, Gender and Ethnicity.

HEGEMONY- leadership or predominant influence exercised by one nation over others, as in a confederation.

COLONIALISM- The control or governing influence of a nation over a dependent country, territory, or people. The system or policy by which a nation maintains or advocates such control or influence.

POST COLONIALISM- An era or attitude relating to the period after the settlement of one country by another, or very broadly, after the 1960s, when many colonised countries gained their independence

IMPERIAL 'OTHER'-

YOUTH SUBCULTURE- A minority youth culture whose distinctiveness depended largely on the social class and ethnic background of its members; often characterized by its adoption of a particular music genre such as rock, pop, rap.

SYNCRETISM- is the combining of different beliefs, often while melding practices of various schools of thought.

POST MODERNISM-Postmodernism is a tendency in contemporary culture characterized by the rejection of objective truth and global cultural narrative

URBAN MUSIC- The term was coined by the late New York DJ Frankie Crocker in the mid 1970s. Urban contemporary radio stations feature a playlist made up entirely of hip hop/rap, contemporary R&B, pop, electronica and Caribbean music such as reggae, reggaeton, zouk, and sometimes soca.
